Simplicity and Space

The clotheslines of towels and colorful shirts signal wash day in this narrow alley of "live-above" apartments behind Chinatown's restaurant row. The unsteady tiles down the center of the alley cover a drain. Aromas of kung pao chicken and yang chow fried rice waft down the alley from the restaurant kitchens, allowing the infrequent visitor to "sample" the popular dishes by nose.
