The Dragon Incurs No Blame
Stone, concrete or plaster dragons and other mythical creatures stand guard outside many of the shops and other businesses of Chinatown, warding off evil spirits or bringing good luck to those inside. Those depicting animals are often referred to as "fu dogs", even if the animal portrayed is not a dog. Smiling statues of the Buddha are common as well.
