This modest exhibit is dedicated with thanks to the people who live and work in the sometimes magical neighborhood known as Los Angeles Chinatown. Without its people there would truly be no Chinatown.

I am grateful to my friend Ryan Oba who opened my eyes to a world I had driven through hundreds of times but never really experienced. When the student is ready, the master appears.

These colorful banners (left) were flying everywhere in Chinatown the morning I did the field photography for this exhibit. Created by Gold Graphics of Pacoima and sponsored by the local Chinatown Business Improvement District, the banners celebrate Chinese New Year 2002, the year of the horse. The brush painting of a galloping horse illustrates the vibrant, animated spirit of the Chinatown community. "Gung hay fat choy!"

I hope you enjoy the exhibit. Feel free to contact me with your comments. I am considering adding more Chinatown images eventually, or creating similar photo tours of other neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
